AUTOMOTIVE TIPS:  WIPER BLADES

Wiper blades come in all types and sizes.  Their constructions vary by blade manufacturer.  Some wipers can last 6-8 months and others need replaced every 3 months.  Wipers are generally inexpensive, easy to replace, and are often only remembered when it is raining.   If the wiper degrades completely you risk damaging the glass as well as loss of visibility.  You should inspect your wipers at least once a month…and more often in Love Bug Season!

Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield and inspect the condition of the rubber blades. Look for damage or loss of resilience in the material.  Often times the material is folding, separated, or cracking.  Wet the windshield with the washers and switch the wipers on. If the wiper blades are not wiping the glass evenly, or are smearing the windshield, use an alcohol pad to clean the blades and retry.  If the same condition persists, then replace your wiper blades.
